University Preparation

	Students from all over the world have begun their Higher Education with a Language Link University Preparation Course. Our programmes focus on improving your English language and developing the skills you will require for academic study at a UK university. Language Link cooperates with Greenwich Community College to provide university preparation and foundation degree programmes designed to facilitate entry into leading UK universities. Greenwich Community College is a Partner College of the University of Greenwich and is a publicly funded institution providing full and part-time courses to around 14,000 students. The College is included in the DfES Register of Education and Training Providers and is an Education UK Partner accredited by the British Council. The College holds a highly commended Beacon Award for International Student Support in 2003-2004.

	Academic Study Year (24 or 36 weeks, 20 lessons per week) An integrated study programme focused on the development of communication and study skills, combined with an IELTS preparation course. The course consists of a combination of English language training to qualify you for entry into a UK university, and study skills to help you integrate into the British academic system. Course Features * Task-based, communicative lessons to develop your receptive and productive skills in Academic English: listening, reading, speaking and writing * A thorough grammar syllabus for each new level, helping you to activate and use your English in real-life situations * A strong lexical focus to increase and develop your academic vocabulary and use of colloquial English * IELTS examination preparation to help you reach the score you need * Academic skills to train you for university study * Assignment writing skills * Cultural Studies, focussed on British life and institutions Entry Requirements Students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 4.5 return to top of page
	University Foundation Year (36 or 48 weeks, 25 lessons per week) An intensive preparatory programme designed to equip you with the language and academic skills needed to succeed in the British university system. This flexible and modular programme provides an effective and personalised pathway to many degree courses in a range of subjects. You will be given advice on choosing a suitable university, assistance with the application process and the use of the university prospectus library. Course Features * General and Academic English training to help you acquire and develop the necessary language skills to cope with undergraduate study delivered in English and the required academic knowledge to successfully undertake an IELTS examination and an undergraduate degree * Computer Skills: learn the basics of Word, Excel and PowerPoint and practise the skills you acquire through task-based project work assessed by the course tutor * A range of personal Study Skills will be taught to develop your learning autonomy and introduce you to studying styles required for undergraduate study * Cultural Studies, providing an insight into the lifestyle and culture of Britain * Specialist subject modules based on your chosen course of study Examples of Specialist Module subjects: * Business Studies * Finance and Accounting * Hotel and Catering * Human Resource Management * Law * Marketing * Media and Communications * Politics * Psychology * Travel and Tourism Entry Requirements Students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 4.5 We also run a Fast Track Foundation Programme (24 weeks, 25 lessons per week). return to top of page
	Pre-Masters Programme (10 weeks, 20 lessons per week) This programme designed to develop the core skills you need for success in a Masters degree in the UK. Classes will help you to learn in the quickest and most effective way. During the course you will receive expert counselling to help you choose the most suitable postgraduate course. You will then have professional guidance in selecting and visiting the most appropriate universities. You will also have time to become accustomed to UK culture and the UK environment. Course Features * English for Academic Purposes * IELTS preparation * Meeting and seminar skills * Research, writing and presentation skills * Postgraduate study skills * Case studies * GMAT training if required Entry Requirements Students must have a minimum level of English equivalent to IELTS 6.0. return to top of page IELTS Preparation Course (15-20 lessons per week) If you are planning to study at a UK university, you will need to take the IELTS examination. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an academic-based examination which tests your ability in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. The test is graded from 0-9, and most universities require a score of 6.0-7.5 (Upper-Intermediate to Advanced level). IELTS tests can be taken every week at a cost of approximately £105. The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) can be taken in paper or computer-based format and tests your ability in Listening, Structure, Reading and Writing. The computer-based test is graded from 0-300. TOEFL tests can be taken every week at a cost of approximately £120.
