TKT

Introduction

This is a very intensive two week full-time course designed to prepare experienced teachers whose first language is not English for the Cambridge ESOL TKT. The course is designed to prepare candidates to be tested on their knowledge of concepts related to language, language use and the background to and practice of language teaching and learning.

The TKT is composed of five modules, which participants take on the last day. The content of TKT is tested by means of objective tasks, such as matching and multiple choice. Candidates are not required to listen, speak or write in English on the test. This course does not include practical teaching.y

This programme can be combined with a teaching practice component or with an English language component.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must have a level of English equivalent to IELTS 4.5

Syllabus

Part 1: Language and Background to Language Learning and Teaching
Describing language and language skills; background to language learning and teaching

Part 2: Lesson Planning and Use of Resources for Language Teaching
Planning and preparing a lesson or sequence of lessons; selection and use of resources and materials

Part 3: Managing the Teaching and Learning Process
Teachers' and learners' language in the classroom; classroom management; teacher roles; grouping students; correcting learners; giving feedback

Part 4: Knowledge about Language (KAL)
Awareness and understanding of the difficulties students may encounter in the language learning process;knowledge of the language systems needed to plan and teach lessons

Part 5: Content & Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
The practice of planning, teaching and assessing curriculum subjects taught in English in a range of different educational contexts
